STUD HISTORY
Otapawa Herefords was founded in 1969 with females selected from the Kai Iwi Stud
and in 1970 from the Stanway and Maungahina Dispersals. Our first sire was Gay
Robert 40th.
The Polled stud was established with the purchase of the 2nd place heifer Waihuka P
Amethyst 44 at the National Show and Sale for $2000. Females were also purchased
from the Ruru Stud. AI was extensively used for 3 years.
1977 Ruru Emblem 81 was purchased for $3000, being top price of the sale. He bred
very good cattle with a big frame.
1980 Neeward Enterprise 7th was purchased from the National Sale for the record
price of $15,000. He bred very correct cattle.
1982 Acton dispersal sale, Acton Princess 697 by Woodlands Beaufighter was
purchased for $7100, a NZ record female price.
1982 National Sale Ravenswood Exclusive Fella was purchased for $6000.
1983 at the Sydney Royal Show, Grand Champion Majestic Freeway, NZ semen rights
were purchased with John Phillips Wharehau.
1985 BT Butler 409R, NZ semen rights were purchased.
1984 Otapawa Case 176 gained 2nd place in the Junior Bull Class at the World
Hereford Conference Show in Christchurch, then in the next year the All Breeds
yearling bull at the Auckland Easter Show and followed by gaining top price at the
1985 National Sale of $20,500, to John and Max Morrison of Ardo Stud.
1988 National Sale, Otapawa Rampage 267 sold for $11,500 to the Matariki Stud,
Kaikoura. 1988 also saw Otapawa purchase 1/4 share in Adelaide, Melbourne and
Sydney Royal Grand Champion Heatherdale Arrow F33.
1990 Otapawa Hy Sky sold for $8000 to the Waidale Stud.
1990 Grassmere Jackpot, a son of Braxton Greath Southern was purchased.
1991 National Sale Awataha Pettigrew purchased for $16,000.
1992 Koanui Top Gun purchased privately from Koanui for $25,000. Margfred Park
Dynasty K58 semen used.
