Foreword

Welcome to the Umbrella Range Angus (URA) 5th annual bull sale.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported and helped us over the past few years. We
really appreciate it and it is very pleasing to hear some great feedback about our previous sale bulls
performance and the progeny that they are producing.
Our stud herd consists of 150 registered cows which run with 1,250 Angus commercial cows alongside
19,000 Romdale sheep and 8,000 red deer. URA was formed with the aim of breeding moderate
framed, thick, easy doing bulls with strong maternal traits to cover our own herd of commercial cows.
This still remains the top priority today and is achieved by investing in what we perceive to be the
best genetics available to breed our type of Angus cattle. Breeding emphasis has always been for our
maternal line to be as strong and productive as it can be while continually improving carcass quality
and maintaining the type and strength of the herd. Our cows must be able to endure long winters on
undeveloped hill country and calve unassisted as 2 year olds and each year thereafter. We focus on
pedigrees that show production and longevity within our breeding programme while using EBV’s and
raw data to help select the best genetics going forward.
We are confident that the bulls we have selected for the sale have the breeding and performance to
achieve these goals. This is backed up by the fact that a number of this years catalogued bulls have
been used over our heifers and selected cows and we feel that all of these bulls will benefit other
operations with similar aspirations.
This year’s sale will be conducted as an on farm auction in conjunction with Bidr. If you would like to
