WOODBANK
ANGUS
Welcome to the 2021 Woodbank Angus Annual Bull Sale. There has been a
restructure to the business here at Woodbank since the last winter sale in 2020.
Caroline and I have purchased the property from and John & Robyn as part of
our family succession. We are excited to be able to pursue our passion with the
Angus breed and continue the legacy of breeding Angus Cattle here at Woodbank
which started in 1936. Caroline and I have been at Woodbank since 2008 and
2021 marks 85 years of breeding pedigree Angus cattle here at Woodbank. We are
proud to be the 4th generation to have the opportunity to enhance and grow the
Woodbank brand from where it is today into the foreseeable future.
The past 12 months have been a year like no other and has been very challenging
whether its Covid, drought or political but we’re all having to change and adapt as
quickly as possible to remain viable, profitable and compliant. All things considered
farm gate prices have been relativity strong over the last 12 months and continue to
do so looking forward.
We’re really excited about this year’s group of bulls we present to you. We have
some exciting new bloodlines we’ve incorporated into our program, all proven bulls
with plenty of recorded progeny and high accuracy ebv’s. In today’s information
age we believe we have to use all the tools available for our genetic selection but
we do take a balanced approach as we are mindful that our cattle have to produce,
be profitable and above anything else, last. We’ve retained 3 bulls from this year’s
group which we are really excited about, they offer very strong maternal bloodlines
and we believe they have the genetic package that will add significant value within
our herd.
As always, we continue to be very maternally focused. We mated over 500 females
last spring and will winter 425 in calf females. These cows spend the majority of
the year on steep hill country so maternal strength is at the forefront of all our
breeding decisions. We believe our females have got to have true form, function and
be productive. When we look at what sires we want to include in our program, first
and foremost they’ve got to add some maternal value.
The bulls have been semen tested by Xcell Breeding Services.
We wish to thank all previous purchasers and supporters from our past sales and
hope you’ll join us on June 22nd for our 2021 sale.
Thank you for your time,
Ben & Caroline
