RANGATIRA ANGUS STUD

Rangatira Angus Stud was founded in 1960 by John and Shirley Dowding at Rangatira, Te Karaka. Charlie and Susie Dowding and their
family have continued to run Rangatira Angus since 1986. In 1999 Susie’s parents Colin and Jackie Williams gave them the opportunity
to farm and to breed Angus Stud Cattle at Coventry Station, where Charlie & Susie bred half of the Kaharau Angus Stud cattle for 15
years until 2015. 2015 saw a return to their original stud prefix Rangatira Angus. Alastair MacPherson and Dollar Maxwell have made an
enormous contribution to the running of the farms and the stud and have worked at Coventry Station since 1999.
          Highlights over the years include:
Winning the Wonder Cup for the best bull at the Matawhero Angus Bull Sale many times.
The live export of Rangatira Zoro 190 to Glengowan Angus Stud, Australia.
2010 Kaharau Xtra 920 won Reserve Champion Angus Bull at the National Beef Expo.

2011 winning the Supreme Champion Angus Bull and Reserve Champion of Champions with Kaharau Geronimo 161.
It was very special for Charlie and Susie to win this award as the Borthwick Trophy was originally awarded for the best pen of four
unled bulls at the National Angus Sale and was won by Charlie’s parents John & Shirley Dowding, Rangatira Angus Stud in 1976
               and 1980.
2015 Rangatira Angus Stud had an incredible sale. We achieved a record price for an on farm auction in NZ with Rangatira 13-38.
He was sired by Mt Mable Thor 660 and purchased by the Cricklewood Stud, Nuhaka. We sold 12 bulls for stud transfer in 2015
               - 1 at the Beef Expo and 11 at our on farm sale. We really appreciate the wonderful support from all our stud buyers, commercial
               buyers and stock agents.
In 2016 we entered the ‘Steak of Origin’ competition for the first time entering one heifer. She achieved 2nd equal placing out of 180
entries for succulence and gained a semi final placing - the top 20% of entries.
‘Steak of Station’ Gisborne Show 2015 long time buyers of our bulls Taaheke and Ranganui Stations again won 1st and 2nd prizes
for the ‘Steak of Station’ competition, and have had continued success regularly placing in the top 3 for many years. All entries in
this competition bred from Rangatira Genetics achieved top grading from Silver Fern Farms Beef Eating Quality.
It is a huge thrill to see the studs Commercial Buyers regularly receive top prices at Saleyards and all meat processing with top
               grading scores.
It was exciting to see cattle from RANGATIRA Angus Genetics AGAIN achieve top prices at Matawhero, Wairoa, Stortford Lodge and
Fielding cattle sales during the past year.
