FOREWORD
Rob & Nikki welcome you to the 75th Annual Sale of Rising 2 year old Angus Bulls from Tarangower.

This year marks a special milestone been our 75th Annual on farm sale. We are very proud to offer this line of quality bulls and hope you
can come and celebrate our sale with us.
The Tarangower Angus Stud was founded in 1926 by Les Purdie, Rob’s Grandfather. Intitally bulls were sold privately from the farm and
then until around 1940 they were walked to Te Kuiti to be sold – some 66 km’s away. From 1940 until 1946 the bulls were trucked to the
Te Kuiti saleyards where they were sold at the Combined Te Kuiti Sale, but in 1947 the sale returned to the Tarangower property where it
has continued to be held annually.

Tarangower runs 180 stud cows, and 1200 Perendale Breeding ewes under commercial conditions. Bounded by the Mokau River we farm
1150 acres effective and winter approx 9 su per hectare. All stock are fattened at Tarangower, and each year we carefully select & retain
approx 45 heifers to include in our herd. Our winters can be very wet and long with average rainfall 70-80 inches per year.
From 3yr old on cows are expected to raise a calf annually and any dry cows are culled. Tarangower implements a rigorous culling
procedure, poor performing cows and any with bad temperaments or conformation problems are also culled.
The bulls are run in one mob from weaning until mid June then they are split into groups of 20-25 and carefully selected till what you see at
Auction 12 months later.
Our aim is to breed sound cattle of good temperament, structure, muscling with good fertility and each year we look to source 1 or 2
quality Stud Bulls that will compliment and enhance our cow herd.
No supplements are fed – grass and hay only.
