BREEDING CATTLE WITH STRUCTURE,
CONSTITUTION AND CARCASE

Welcome to the Matariki and Woodbank 50th annual on farm bull sale.
We are incredibly pleased with this year’s line up of sale bulls. As always, they are a
moderate, meaty, well-structured line up of young sires backed up with well-balanced
EBV’s which will take any programme forward. We have retained a couple of top young
sires of out this age group which we are extremely excited about. As you will see in the
pedigrees there is a lot of longevity in our cow herd. Every bull is backed up by a great
female that has earnt her place in our herd by performing though good and bad seasons,
in a typical summer dry, hill country east coast environment. This gives us the confidence
these bulls can shift and perform in anywhere throughout NZ.

Our bull walk date is the Friday 28th May from 10am until 4pm. All bulls will be penned
for inspection.
The sale will be livestreamed via the bidr® platform. The sale lots can be viewed here or
can be accessed on the NZ Hereford website by going to www.herefords.co.nz and clicking
on the sale catalogues link.
Our yearling sale is to be held on the 5th of October 2021. We will put up 35-40 well
grown yearlings fit and specialised for heifer mating or for backing up your cow herd sires.

The commercial cattleman is our mainstay, and we cannot lose sight of their breeding
objectives. Our breeding strategies are simple, keep everything in balance and multi
trait selection is important to breed sound, free moving, easy care cattle that have the
traditional Hereford traits of fertility, constitution, meat, and muscling to produce high
yielding, top quality red meat which will enhance the financial returns of the commercial
cattleman.
All our sale bulls have been BVD tested by Dan Fleming from Vetcare Kaikoura.

All sale bulls have also been vaccinated twice with Bovilis BVD vaccine as this is a major
concern in beef cattle in New Zealand.
All the Matariki sale bulls have been semen tested and serving capacity tested by Xcell
Breeding Services, Woodend.
